Tourist information centres welcome the Eisteddfod

As part of preparations to welcome the 2012 Urdd National Eisteddfod to Gwynedd you can now buy a variety of the Eisteddfod’s merchandise in two of Gwynedd Council’s tourist information centres.

The items are for sale at the tourist information centres in Caernarfon and Porthmadog, and they include hoodies for adults and children, t-shirts for adults and children, CD’s, badges, biros, towels and bags.

In 2012, the Urdd National Eisteddfod will be held on Coleg Meirion Dwyfor’s land at Glynllifon near Caernarfon between 4 and 9 June. The Urdd Eisteddfod is one of Europe’s largest cultural youth festivals, which attracts over 100,000 visitors and 15,000 competitors every year.

Councillor John Wyn Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Economy and Community Portfolio Leader said:

“Our Tourist Information Centres are a one-stop-shop for local people as well as visitors, which provide information about local events, festivals, open days, children’s activities and interesting places to go for a day out and advice about the many outdoor activities available in Gwynedd. The friendly staff can also tell customers about public transport links within the county.

“We are delighted to offer this service to our customers and visitors, and to support the Eisteddfod. The Eisteddfod will be held during Whit, and we as a Council are eager to attract as many visitors as possible to the area and to the Eisteddfod, which will certainly be a boost to the local economy and the county’s businesses.”

Meriel Parry, Urdd National Eisteddfod Executive Committee Chairman, Eryri 2012 added:

“We are very grateful to Gwynedd Council and to all our partners for their willingness in helping us to spread the word that the Urdd Eisteddfod will be visiting the area in June next year. The merchandise has proved to be extremely popular. We would like to thank everyone who has been so supportive of the campaign and we look forward to the Eisteddfod in Glynllifon which is promising to be one to remember.”
