Davies: WAG out of touch on health spending

Findings of an ITV/Yougov poll published today show that 75% of people in Wales support the Welsh Conservative commitment to protect the Assembly Government’s health budget from spending cuts.

Commenting on the findings, Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services Andrew RT Davies said, “These results will put greater pressure on the Assembly Government, which has so far refused to commit to protecting the health budget from cuts.

“The NHS is the Welsh Conservatives’ number one priority.  We believe that health spending ought to be protected in Wales, just as David Cameron has ensured for the NHS in England.

“Labour-Plaid has no justification for cutting the health budget as 40% of the block grant was safeguarded due to the UK Coalition’s commitment to ringfencing health spending in England.

“Far from prioritising health spending, the Minister has cut health spending by £435million in this financial year, long before the Chancellor’s spending review.

“These poll findings show that Labour-Plaid is out of touch with public opinion in Wales.”
