Evaluating Flintshire Business Week

An event to evaluate Flintshire Business Week 2009 and to share ideas about this year’s event has taken place.

Flintshire County Council’s Chief Executive, Colin Everett welcomed the audience, followed by an address from the Leader of the Council, Arnold Woolley. Both stressed the value of close and strong working relationships between the local authority and the business community. This was followed by an economic overview of the last twelve months, together with some of the challenges and opportunities facing the county in 2010, presented by Dave Heggarty, the Council’s Head of Regeneration. The event was also supported by several Councillors and Council officers.

Thirty business people attended including representatives of Toyota UK, UPM Kymmene, West Coast Energy, KK Fine Foods, Northop Hall Country House Hotel, Deeside College, Glyndwr University, Careers Wales, FSB, Tourism Partnership, Mace & Jones, DSG, DTM legal, and other Flintshire businesses.

The evaluation of the 2009 event was presented by Patricia Carlin, the Council’s Senior Business Advisor, with an open discussion following to develop ideas for Flintshire Business Week 2010.

Many ideas were generated, including a suggestion for a forum/ networking event to take place on a quarterly basis, together with a new network to be established for the growing number of businesses in the environmental sector, particularly energy generation.  A further outcome will be the formation of a steering group with representatives from Flintshire businesses, which will convene in March ensuring that businesses have a voice in the planning of 2010 Business Week.
