Feast for the Birds at Ponciau Banks Park

The work of over 350 local children from Hooson and Maes y Mynydd schools was finally proudly displayed in two of the trees at Ponciau Banks Park recently.

The children had spent November, with Park Officer, Katie Holland, and Coed Cymru Officer, Keri Hargest, making pinecone birdfeeders and edible garlands to feed the wild birds and to celebrate Tree Dressing weekend, which falls at the end of National Tree week. Families came along to the Pavilion at Ponciau Banks Park to watch the tree-dressing and also for hot drinks and mince pies, along with fun, hands-on craft activities.

Despite the wintry weather the event was a real success, and the birds have seemed very appreciative of their new food source. ‘This has been a really worthwhile project, ‘ said Katie Holland, Park Officer, ‘and it is so nice to see all the children’s work making a real difference to the wildlife in the Park this Winter’
