Flintshire’s recycling team visits schools

Flintshire County Council’s recycling team have been visiting schools across the county, to ensure that pupils, parents and teachers are informed about the new waste collection arrangements which are coming to all Flintshire residents between March and the summer.

Under the new arrangements, households will receive the following services:

  • A weekly recycling collection
  • A weekly collection of food waste
  • A fortnightly collection of non–recyclable waste (refuse) alternating with…
  • A fortnightly green waste collection service (brown bin)
  • Collections will take place on the same day of the week which will be easier for residents.

Residents are asked to make sure that the wheeled bins are presented at the kerbside with the bin lid closed by 7am on their collection day, to ensure collection.

Speaking outside Wat’s Dyke Infants School in Mynydd Isa, Councillor Nancy Matthews, Executive Member for Waste, said:

“Visiting schools is a great way to let people know about our new refuse collections service, and the children love meeting our recycling mascots.

“Children learn about the importance of recycling in school, and they’re always keen to recycle more and waste less, and to pass that message on to the adults in their family!

“The more we recycle, the less waste goes to landfill, and that can only be a good thing.

“The county has to meet strict recycling targets set by the Welsh Assembly Government, or we face tough financial penalties.

“If you do have any questions about the new service, the team will be out and about at various locations around the county, and you can also contact the Council’s waste collection helpline on 01352 703350.”
