Flooding in St Asaph (Information issued at 6.20am)

Over recent hours, concerns have been growing about the levels of the River Elwy at St Asaph.   

The river has now overtopped the flood defences in the north end of the city.

Residents in up to 500 properties in the lower part of St Asaph have been informed using the Environment Agency’s Flood Alert system from the emergency services are also in the area  informing people. Residents have been asked to leave their properties and stay with friends of family, or alternatively attend a rest centre. which has been opened by Denbighshire County Council at St Asaph Leisure Centre, where staff are working with colleagues from the British Red Cross.

Officers from Denbighshire County Council are working with partner agencies and are closely monitoring the situation.

Also, flooding has caused some problems on the county’s roads. The B5381 Lower Denbigh Road in St Asaph is closed, as is Graig Road, Denbigh from the bends to the industrial units.
