Foodwise: A New Weight Management Programme Launches in Cardiff

CardifCouncilA new scheme which aims to assist and support people in their bid to achieve and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle has been launched.

Fairwater Leisure Centre will play host to the programme which is a joint partnership project between Active Cardiff and the team of Community Dietetics from the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (UHB).

Cabinet Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture Ramesh Patel said: “The specialist course will run for eight weeks with the outlook to positively change people’s eating habits for life.

“Participants are provided with knowledge and education so that they can safely reach their weight loss goals with a new approach to food and fitness which will stay with them forever.

“This practical and important information together with one of the many diverse range of sports and leisure activities offered at any of our leisure centres go hand-in-hand to give people the support they need to enjoy an active life.”

Managing expectations, setting realistic weight loss targets and nutritional information are all covered on the programme including how to read food labels, portion control and diet myths and facts.

The programme also highlights the importance of exercising, demonstrating the benefits this has alongside a healthy diet.

The cost of the course is £38.80 which is included in the Active Card, the Council’s simple value-for-money scheme which offers members the use of leisure and sports facilities across the city.
