For those in hair & beauty who mean business

Enterprise and entrepreneurship are becoming increasingly important in the current economic climate, as more people want to start their own business, but they need the skills and mind-set to make it a success.

So Coleg Gwent is offering those in the hair and beauty industry just that, with the launch of a new Foundation Degree in Salon Management starting this month.  On Monday 9 January at City of Newport Campus at 3.30pm, those in the hair, beauty and holistic therapies industry can find out more about how the course provides an innovative approach to preparing learners for the competitive market of the beauty industry at a special information session.

Offered in partnership with the University of Wales, Newport, the course is flexible in nature, ideal for those wanting to fit it around work commitments, and provides progression from lower level study in addition to providing business owners a holistic approach to their business.

The Foundation Degree covers business planning, business law, marketing, psychology of the beauty industry, entrepreneurship, health & safety, human resources and enterprise and on completion learners will be well equipped to offer a an effective customer-focussed salon service or ‘top up’ to a full degree at University.

Lecturer Emma Macmillan explains more:  “As part of the course guest speakers from successful businesses will talk through their experiences and offer advice to the learners on the course.  It will also provide a forum for small business owners in the region to network and exchange best practice.”

The course is also being offered from January at Coleg Gwent’s Ebbw Vale Campus in partnership with UHOVI.

Anyone interested can attend the Info Session on 9 January or for more information on the course and entry requirements call 01633 466000 (City of Newport) or 01495 333000 (Ebbw Vale).
