Forensic students set the scene

Even the tiniest clues can be crucial in a crime scene investigation.  A team of budding scientists from Coleg Gwent recently tested their attention to detail with a ‘crime scene’ of their own.

Making sure they left no stone unturned, Level 3 Forensic Science students from Coleg Gwent’s Pontypool Campus gathered and examined ‘evidence’ from a mock car break-in.

Throughout the course students learn about the techniques used for collecting and analysing evidence, including evidence from fingerprints, blood and DNA.

“The staged investigation provided an important opportunity for students to experience a different type of crime, and to go through the real-life procedures of crime scene investigators faced with the same situation,” said Lecturer Liz Powell.
