Millar: A taste of the Olympics in Abergele

Clwyd West AM Darren Millar enjoyed a taste of the Olympic games this week when he took part in the Abergele Olympiad.

A free evening of sport was offered to residents of all ages and abilities with qualified instructors at hand to supervise a range of pursuits. During the evening Darren Millar tried his hand at boxercise and Zumba.

The Abergele Olympiad was sponsored by the North Wales Methodist Women. They were proud to offer an event that captured the spirit of the Olympics, and also held an Olympic themed coffee morning in St Paul’s Church, Abergele, to reflect on the Olympiad.

Talking after the event, Darren said:

“It is important to make the most of the Olympics this year so I was delighted to support the Abergele Olympiad.

“The North Wales Methodist Women have done a great job of raising the profile of sport and the special character of the Olympic games and they are to be commended for their efforts.

“I hope this event could inspire a future athlete, or simply encouraged people to take part in more physical activities and lead healthier lifestyles.”

He added, “The Olympiad was the first time I had experienced boxercise and Zumba – I suspect it will be the last!”
