Former First Minister Rhodri Morgan is used to being grilled about Government policies when he appears on BBC Radio Wales.
But he faced a more formidable challenge when he joined Frank Hennessy to co-host I’ll Show You Mine, the music and chat show in which Frank shares his taste in music with usual co-star Amy Wadge.
Amy Wadge couldn’t make it to record the two-hour show for Sunday 24 January, so Frank invited the former First Minister to step in and share some musical favourites of his own.
The pair have met frequently over the years and always enjoyed the encounters, says Frank.
But Rhodri added: “I’m doing it because I didn’t think I was musical enough for Celtic Heartbeat” – Frank’s other programme which charts the best in traditional and contemporary folk and acoustic music.
Rhodri chose a selection of music which sparked memories, such as George Lewis’s Just A Closer Walk which reminded him of time spent at university in America when some of the jazz greats were still around.
And he even found time for a political slant with the Bing Crosby track Brother Can You Spare A Dime, which he says is “the best song ever about a recession”.
You can hear Rhodri’s choices in I’ll Show You Mine on Sunday 24 January on BBC Radio Wales at 6.00pm.
