Go green this Easter

Chocolate lovers across the Caerphilly county borough are being urged to think green this Easter and recycle as much leftover packaging as possible.

The consumption of Easter eggs results in huge amounts of waste card, plastic and foil which can be recycled rather than being sent to landfill.

Caerphilly county borough council is reminding residents to place card and plastic in their weekly recycling bin for collection. Foil cannot be placed in domestic recycling bins, but can be recycled at Penmaen or Penallta Civic Amenity sites.

Cllr Lyn Ackerman, Cabinet Member for Public Services said, “While we certainly don’t want to deny chocoholics their sweet treats, we do have to highlight the fact that the vast majority of packaging from Easter eggs will head straight to landfill.

“This year, why not try and select eggs that are not excessively packaged such as those wrapped only in foil. They still taste as good, but you’ll be doing your bit for the environment.
