Google to Help Boost Wales’ Online Economy

MP for Clwyd West, David Jones, has welcomed the launch of Google UK’s twelve month program to work with Welsh businesses to drive economic growth in Wales by getting more businesses online.

Google will provide free 1:1 consultations for thousands of businesses in Wales, and will travel across the country throughout the year. Advice will be available from Google experts offering lessons on how to boost traffic to websites and increase business online.

Events are designed to help business owners across Wales, regardless of technical expertise, to get online and create their first business website, whilst improving their online presence.

David Jones said:

“HM Government is investing almost £57million improving broadband across Wales. In a digital age it is vital not to underestimate the benefits of exposing business in Wales to global online markets.

“I  am always pleased to see how many businesses in the Welsh rural economy are adapting and finding new ways of connecting with international customers. It is therefore staggering to learn that as many as 40% of Welsh SMEs do not currently have a website, and only 33% are e-commerce enabled.

“I would urge as many business owners as possible to take up the opportunity to obtain free advice about improving their online presence, as doing so will enable businesses in Wales to compete on equal terms with counterparts around the globe.”
