Grants available to boost rural community facilities

Monmouthshire’s rural communities are set to benefit from an exciting grant scheme delivered by the county council.  The Village Community Facility Capital Investment Programme provides up to £5,000 funding for capital projects to such facilities as local halls to increase usage and improve the range of rural services.

The deadline for submitting applications is Tuesday 24th April 2012, and council staff will be available to provide information at a surgery session in Usk on Monday 15th March.  Potential applicants should call Monmouthshire County Council’s Rural Projects Officer Bethan Gibbens on 01633 644840 to make an appointment.  Bethan can also supply further information and an application form.

Bethan explained: “This is a fantastic opportunity for rural communities to improve local facilities and services.  We hope to support projects which will make a big difference to the sustainability of services in rural communities.”

The Village Community Facility Capital Investment Programme has previously granted awards to five village halls in Monmouthshire and successful projects focussed on broadening community use.  These include one project that allows an area of a large hall to be zoned off for smaller groups and another to install stage lighting and curtains.

The programme has received funding from the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
