Green light for FREE Christmas parking in Caephilly

Shoppers and businesses in town centres across the Caerphilly county borough have been given an early Christmas present.

Caerphilly county borough council’s cabinet has agreed to the introduction of 2 hour free parking in all pay and display car parks for two weeks in the run up to Christmas 2010.

Cllr Ron Davies, CCBC cabinet member for regeneration welcomed the news, “This decision will bring lots of festive cheer to shoppers and businesses alike across the whole county borough. We acknowledge the pressures facing traders at the moment and our town centres need all the help they can, so we are delighted to be able to give the local economy a boost in the critical pre-Christmas shopping period.”

“Hopefully this incentive will lead to more people shopping within the county borough, supporting local firms and enjoying the many attractions our town centres have to offer,” he added.

It has been agreed that free 2 hour parking is introduced at all pay and display car parks, rather than selected locations, as this will be easier to implement and is less confusing to motorists. The free parking will commence on Tuesday 14th December until Thursday 28th December.

During the Christmas period local car parks are full for the majority of the day and demand for parking is at its highest at this time of year. Free parking up to 2 hours (with no return for 2 hours), will ensure that there is turnover of car parking spaces and any motorist wishing to stay for longer than 2 hours will be required to pay the normal tariff (i.e. 3 hours and over).
