‘Grow with Me’ DVD launched

Wrexham Council’s Early Education Team have launched their DVD: ‘Grow with me – Tyfu gyda fi’ at a special ceremony at the Guildhall.

The DVD was produced by the Country Channel and celebrates the work done by the Early Education Team in encouraging young children and families to grow their own vegetables.

The DVD follows the progress of children from Chirk pre-school playgroup and Eyton school as they learn about growing their own vegetables under the watchful eye of Medwyn Williams MBE, who has won ten gold medals at Chelsea Flower Show. The film also features the garden set up by Wrexham’s Early Education Team at the Llangollen Gardening Show in 2009 which showcased exhibits from more than 50 playgroups, private Nurseries, Flying Start settings and schools throughout Wrexham.

The launch was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wrexham, Cllr Arwel Gwynn Jones and his wife Mair, who were presented with a bowl of cous-cous salad, made especially for them by Heather Petrie, Wrexham Early Education Link Teacher, using produce which children in Wrexham will be encouraged to grow this summer. Medwyn Williams MBE gave a short speech to the audience, which was made up of prize-winners from the 2009 Gardening Show, children and practitioners who featured in the DVD and guests from agencies who work in partnership with the Early Education Team in Wrexham.
