Home Buyers Fair comes to Wrexham

People looking to buy a new home will have the chance to get advice from the experts at the Home Buyers Fair on Saturday April 17th.

The event has been organised by Wrexham Council and 75point3, independent financial advisors, and is being held at Glyndwr University’s Catrin Finch centre, between 11am-3pm. The fair will feature exhibitions from local solicitors, housing associations, mortgage advisors and developers, all offering advice to people looking to buy a new home, or those looking to get onto the property ladder.

There will also be a series of seminars running throughout the event covering a variety of subjects, including:

  • The legal process of buying a house
  • Information on mortgages
  • Affordable housing options
  • Information on how to make your home more energy efficient

Companies taking part in the event include –

  • McInerney Homes
  • Morris Homes
  • Cyril Jones & Co.
  • Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd
  • GMA Solicitors
  • SG Estates
  • Clwyd Alyn
  • Halifax
  • Walker Smith & Way
  • Persimmon’s Homes
  • Hopley Pierce and Bird solicitors

Staff from Wrexham Council’s Housing Strategy Department will also be on hand to offer advice to people about affordable housing options.

According to the latest figures released by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG), first-time buyers faced house prices that were 8.9% higher in January than a year earlier.

The event is suitable for anyone looking to buy a new home, whether you’re a first time buyer or looking for something different.

Cllr Mark Pritchard, Lead Member for Housing and Planning said:

“In the current economic climate, home buyers may struggle because of a lack of support or a feeling of isolation. It has become increasingly hard to both get onto the property ladder and to secure a mortgage. The banks need to be more proactive in offering help, support and guidance to couples looking to get a foot on the property ladder.”

“The Home Buyers Fair is a great way to get the right advice and guidance from the people in the housing business. Mortgage advisors will be on hand to tell you about schemes to help secure a mortgage while solicitors will be able to offer any legal advice.

“Everyone has the right to a good quality, affordable home. Appropriate Affordable Housing is one of Wrexham Council’s corporate priorities for 2010/2011 and the authority is keen to support events like this.”
