Any form of domestic abuse is totally unacceptable – this is the clear message of the Gwynedd and Anglesey Community Safety Partnership as it supports the national White Ribbon campaign.
As part of this year’s annual domestic abuse White Ribbon Campaign, the Gwynedd and Anglesey Community Safety Partnership will have an information stand at Ysbyty Gwynedd’s reception area on Monday, 25 November. It will include information from a range of organisations who provide domestic abuse support and services.
Representatives from specialist organisations including Hafan Cymru, BAWSO, the Health Board, Bangor Women’s Aid and members of the All Wales Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Helpline will be available to speak with members of the public regarding the services and help available.
Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for community safety matters, Councillor John Wyn Williams said:
“It’s a sad fact that 45% of women in the UK have experienced some form of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking and tragically, two women are killed every week by a violent partner or ex-partner in Wales and England.
“This is why we are determined to raise awareness about the problem, and to work with our partners to try to eliminate violence against women.”
Councillor Kenneth Hughes, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Social Services (which encompasses community safety matters) from the Isle of Anglesey County Council noted:
“There is no doubt that domestic abuse is a serious problem both nationally and within our local communities – and consideration has to be given to the detrimental effect domestic violence has on everyone concerned including children, young people and the community at large. Therefore initiatives such as White Ribbon Day should be supported by all to highlight that such behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“It is therefore extremely important that we as a Partnership support initiatives such as White Ribbon Day in order to raise awareness of these issues.”
Maria Pritchard, Domestic Abuse Coordinator for the Gwynedd and Anglesey Community Safety Partnership, added: “We are pleased to be supporting the annual White Ribbon campaign once again this year and are delighted to have a wide range of partners taking part in the event.
“Anyone who would like to receive information are welcome to visit us at Ysbyty Gwynedd on Monday, 25 November. We will have a small group available to discuss any issues and some present on the day will be qualified, trained or experienced in domestic abuse issues.”

The Gwynedd Community Safety Partnership is a statutory, multi agency partnership that brings together a number of agencies including Gwynedd Council, the Isle of Anglesey County Councils, North Wales Police, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the Probation Service, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and a host of other voluntary and statutory agencies with the aim of making Anglesey and Gwynedd safer places to live, work and visit.
