Have Your Say On Future of Ferndale

The next phase of regeneration for Ferndale is to go out to public consultation.

Following a recent £675,000 funding approval from the Heads of the Valleys Programme, regeneration proposals have been designed, and are due to start towards the end of the year. The proposals will be on display for a week at Trerhondda Chapel between 9am and 8pm from Monday 12th October to Thursday 15th October and between 9am and 4pm Friday 16th October 2009.

The investment will allow further works and improvement in three key areas of the town: public realm improvements outside the Anchor Hotel, public realm improvements outside the library, and creation of a pedestrian link between Lime Street car park and Lake Street.

The regeneration proposals include:

1) Enhancing the public realm outside of the Anchor Hotel. The completion of this site will complement public realm works completed opposite The Strand, finalising public realm works in this part of the town, creating a visually attractive focal point.

2) The public space adjacent to the town’s library will be enhanced, through introduction of attractive public realm materials, complemented with an open green space. The space will be improved so it offers a better environment for users of public transport, the library and the day centre.

3) A visually attractive pedestrian link will be created between Lake Street and the recently opened Lime Street car park, ensuring better access to the town. Bespoke gates will be constructed at either end of the pedestrian link, incorporating distinctive design.

All the planned work will be designed to complement and enhance the significant work that has already taken place in Ferndale to make it a more attractive place for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

As well as attending the exhibition, community members will be able to view the proposals online, at www.rctcbc.gov.uk/ferndaleregeneration from Monday 12th October until Friday 16th October 2009. Council officers will also be attending the exhibition to answer any questions from the public between 9am and 4pm on Friday 16th October.

Councillor Paul Cannon, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Housing:

Ferndale continues to be a key town centre for us and as such is being prioritised for regeneration. Through this additional Heads of the Valleys funding, we will be able to carry out further improvements to build on the progress we have already made.”

“The involvement of the public is very important to us and we want your views on what you want for Ferndale. I encourage as many as people as possible to see the plans on display so they can be part of this process and have their say.”
