Rhondda Walks A Mile For Mental Health

People put their best feet forward last weekend to “Walk a Mile for Mental Health”.

The event at Gelli Park was one of a number being organised across Rhondda Cynon Taf to mark the annual World Mental Health Week.

Participants collected sponsorship before completing the mile, which was also organised to raise awareness of mental health issues and promote the importance of exercise when it comes to improving your health and wellbeing.

Walk a Mile for Mental Health was also held in Aberdare and Ynysangharad Parks during the week and all three were organised by the Rhondda Cynon Taf Mental Health Partnership, which has seen a number of agencies, including the council, join forces to raise awareness of, and tackle, the indiscriminate issue.

Cllr Mike Forey, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services, said: “Mental illness is not selective and can affect anyone from any walk of life, so it is important for everyone to get behind this cause.

“People walked, ran, cycled, skateboarded and even completed the walk in fancy dress in order to raise awareness and funds. Well done to everyone involved.”
