International KidScreen Award for S4C in New York

An S4C pre-school film has won international recognition by scooping an award at KidScreen, the world’s leading children’s television summit, held in New York.

Ble Mae Cyw? won Best One-Off, Special or TV Film in the Pre-School category at the KidScreen Awards last night (Thursday 17 February). It beat competition from Australia’s The Adventures of Charlotte and Henry (produced by Optimistic Pictures).

The feature length film – made by independent production company Boomerang+ for S4C’s daily nursery service Cyw (the Welsh word for chick) follows some of S4C’s best-loved nursery characters as they look to find missing chick Cyw.

Siân Eirian, S4C’s Head of Children’s Services, said: “S4C is thrilled with this award and to be regarded alongside some of the best children’s content around the world. This KidScreen Award is international recognition of what S4C and its programme-makers in Wales are achieving and it reflects our commitment to broadcasting children’s programming of the highest quality.”

Angharad Garlick, from Boomerang+, producer of the film, said, “Boomerang is proud of its contribution to the pre-school programme service and proud too of its team specialising in this field.”

The KidScreen Summit is regarded as the world’s most important industry event and the KidScreen awards have attracted nominations from broadcasters all over the world.
