The Leader of Pembrokeshire County Council has led tributes to the former ‘Father of the Council’, Mr Viv Hay MBE of Pembroke Dock, who died on Friday night aged 95.
Mr Hay served on the Council from its inception in 1995 to his retirement in 2004.
Said Councillor John Davies: “It is with a deep sense of sadness that all of us at Pembrokeshire County Council learn of the death of Viv Hay.
“He was much respected by officers and members alike. His wit and wisdom would add something very special to every meeting.
“I remember my early days as an inexperienced member, when it was always a privilege to sit by Viv, who indeed tutored all around him of right over wrong within the world of Council.”
“I will remain indebted to him for all his encouragement, good words and deeds. He will be remembered with fond affection as a true gentleman and a man of conscience.
“I know that all of us at Pembrokeshire County Council record our deepest sympathy to the family of a great man.”
