Local food producers get a boost

Local food producers will be getting top tips on how to make the most of their products and help boost the local economy in rural Swansea.

Simon Wright, Chairman of Ffres, an organisation set up to support the local food tourism economy in south west Wales region, will be talking to local food producers about how they can get more out of the food the produce.

One of the topics will focus on how local food producers can offer their services to other businesses that organise events that include hospitality.

Produce will also be showcased at the event and Simon’s wife Maryann will provide recipe ideas for the food on show.

Swansea Council is urging local businesses to attend the event being held in Penclawdd Community Centre on Wednesday 9 June at 2.30pm.

The Council has published its Rural Development Plan (RDP) and one of the projects, entitled ‘Local Food for Local Markets’ seeks to boost the local economy by making produce more available to residents and local businesses.

Richard Beale, Chair of the Swansea Rural Development Partnership, said, “This event will give local food producers the ideal opportunity to showcase what they have to offer and take on board expert advice about how they can make the most of their goods.”

Other projects within the RDP focus on improving cycling and walking routes in parts of rural Swansea. The plan will also help develop a mobile youth service to address issues of social exclusion for young people in rural communities.

This event is free to attend and is supported by Rural Swansea Action-the local action group for the Swansea Rural Development Plan.”
