A brand new Caerphilly county borough business has ‘hopped’ over its final hurdle, and is ready to open its doors in the New Year after receiving support from Caerphilly County Borough Council in the business set-up process.
Bunny Meadow Day Nursery is based in Gelligaer, and owner Kay Aubrey has converted a former stables into a safe and secure nursery for under-fives, set in four breathtaking acres in the grounds of an old rectory.
Kay Aubrey, who has given up her full time job as a family lawyer to fulfil her dream of running a nursery, received a Caerphilly Business Development Grant from Caerphilly County Borough Council, which helped her to purchase some of the educational equipment for the nursery.
Cllr Ron Davies, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Planning said, “I am delighted that we were able to help this business to start up. Creating new jobs in the county borough remains a priority, and I would encourage more budding entrepreneurs to get in touch with our Economic Development team to find out more about what support is available.”
Kay Aubrey said, “It has taken us two years to get to this stage and we have had many hurdles to cross on the way. We are nervously awaiting the final Inspector’s Report (Care Standards Inspectorate of Wales), which went very well on 6th December. We currently await registration in early January, and we will then be ready for business”.
She continued, “We believe in giving the children a good foundation before they start school, and will operate an early learning centre where children will have the opportunity for indoor and outdoor activities in the safety of our grounds”.

Bunny Meadow Day Nursery has already employed Charlene Farmer as its full-time Manager, and will initially employ eight staff. Kay firmly believes in ensuring that the nursery is run to a very high standard and all her new staff will be fully trained in Childcare.
