New Flintshire waste collections – the roll-out continues

This month, the black wheeled bins and a booklet, containing all the information needed about the changes to the Council’s waste collection service, are being distributed to most of the remaining households in Flintshire who are yet to receive the new service.

Around 24,000 properties are already on board, and, over the next few weeks, the majority of the remaining residential properties will receive a black wheeled bin and food caddies ready for their new collection service to start in November.

Households will be receiving the following services:

  • A weekly recycling collection
  • A weekly collection of food waste
  • A fortnightly collection of non–recyclable waste (black bin – residual waste which cannot be recycled) alternating with…
  • A fortnightly green waste collection service (brown bin)

Collections will take place on the same day of the week which will be easier for residents. Residents are asked to make sure that the wheeled bins are presented at the kerbside with the bin lid closed by 7am on their collection day, to ensure collection. If necessary, bins can be placed out for collection the night before.

Councillor Nancy Matthews, Executive Member for Waste, said:

“We know that our residents are willing to embrace the new service, and the benefits to the environment, because recycling rates are increasing dramatically in the areas that already have the new collections.

“Not only that, but the amount of black bin waste generated per household involved in the new collections, has halved from an average of 10 kg per household to only 5 kg.

“We’re very grateful to our residents – but we have to keep up this good work and recycle as much as we can. We are facing strict recycling targets set by the Welsh Government.”
