There were lots of opportunities for cuddles when Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay called in at the Wye Valley Country Store on the Wonastow Road, Monmouth, on Monday.

Nick was attending a microchipping event, organised by the Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, whose teams are touring Wales offering free microchipping in a bid to promote the benefits of microchipping ahead of the introduction in 2015 of a law which will make microchipping in Wales compulsory.

Speaking after the event, Nick said:

“I was delighted to be invited to join the Dogs Trust at Monmouth and fully support the Welsh Government’s decision to introduce compulsory microchipping as this is the most effective way of reducing the stray dog population and can help reunite owners with their lost dogs.

“Making microchipping compulsory should also help improve animal welfare and provide a solution to a large number of issues relating to irresponsible dog ownership as well as easing financial pressures on local authority services.

“It was great to meet up with the dedicated Dogs Trust team and to meet lots of  four footed friends as well.”
