Planning for the next grazing season

An event to be held at Asney Park Farm, Erbistock, Wrexham, LL13 0DS on Thursday 3 March, 2011 will look at making the most of your grazing system. It is suitable for all dairy farmers and is being organized by Organic Centre Wales as part of the Farming Connect Organic Development Programme.

Kathryn George of LIC, a Pasture to Profit Consultant, will be looking at the importance of measuring grass growth and finding a grazing plan that will work for the farmer.

Kathryn commented “Utilising pasture effectively could maintain a sustainable farming business. Finding a system that works around the fields and grass that you have is key.”

Alongside Kathryn, the Conwy Grassland Society have kindly agreed to demonstrate the latest technology in measuring grass. The ‘Pasture Meter’, developed in New Zealand, provides fast, accurate pasture measurements. It is towed behind a quad bike to measure grass growth and uses GPS technology to identify locations.

The event will start at 11.30 am until 2.30pm, with presentations, farm walk and a light lunch. It is free, but you should register with Mari Jones on 07791 442 498 to ensure a place and check the arrangements.
