Police raid Pontypool pub after receiving drugs information

A Pontypool pub was raided by 54 Gwent Police officers after intelligence was gathered on drug misuse by customers of the premises.

Torfaen officers, together with colleagues from the Gwent Police Support Group and dog section, executed a search warrant issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act at The Globe Hotel, Pontypool, on Saturday 9th April at around 10pm.

Everyone inside the pub at the time was searched by officers and nine people, both male and female, were given either cautions or formal warnings for possession of cocaine, amphetamines and cannabis.

PC Jim Aitken, Torfaen Licensing Officer for Gwent Police, said: “The operation went well on the night – the pub was very busy with more than 60 people inside.

This operation sends out a strong message to licensees and members of the public in Torfaen that we will not tolerate drug use in pubs and clubs.

As with all premises, we will offer to work with the licence holders of the Globe Hotel to reduce the potential of drug misuse happening there again.”

Anyone with information on drug crime in their area can call Gwent Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
