Preparations Get Under Way for 2013 Eisteddfod

The National Eisteddfod is calling on anyone interested in taking part in the preparations for the festival in 2013 to attend a special meeting on Wednesday 18 May, to form all the necessary subject committees for the Eisteddfod, held in Denbighshire from 3 – 10 August  in two years time.

This follows the successful public meeting before Easter which attracted over 120 local people, to welcome the Eisteddfod back to Denbighshire for the first time since 2001.

Eisteddfod Organiser, Hywel Wyn Edwards, said, “The response to the public meeting was very good, and we’re now looking forward to starting the work on the 2013 National Eisteddfod in earnest.  We’re encouraging local people to attend the meeting, as we’ll be creating the committees to discuss all the different elements of the Eisteddfod’s work.

“This is your opportunity to make sure that you play a real part in the work over the next two years, to make sure that the people of Denbighshire have their say in all areas of the Eisteddfod, from the poetry subject for the Chair competition to the syllabus piece for the Bass Solo,” he added.

The meeting is held in Denbigh High School, at 18.30 on Wednesday 18 May.  The following committees will be formed during the evening:

  • Folk
  • Dance
  • Visual Arts
  • Drama
  • Recitation
  • Music
  • Learners
  • Literature
  • Cerdd-dant
  • Science and Technology
  • Communications
  • Finance
  • Accommodation
  • Technical

Any one interested in joining one of the committees can turn up on the evening, and the Eisteddfod welcomes enquiries from anyone who wishes to take part in the work of organising the festival in 2013.  For more details, contact the Eisteddfod office on 0845 4090 400.  You can also register your interest by completing the online ‘Contact Us’ form.

The National Eisteddfod attracts 150,000-160,000 visitors every year, and is held alternately in north and south Wales.  Entry to all Eisteddfod activities is free for the price of a daily Maes ticket.

The Eisteddfod receives a grant from the Welsh Assembly Government through the Welsh Language Board, and also receives money from Welsh local authorities through a partnership agreement with the Welsh Local Government Association.

The Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod is held on Lower Berse Farm, off Ruthin Road, Wrexham from 30 July – 6 August this year.  The 2012 Vale of Glamorgan National Eisteddfod will be held on land at the old Llandow airfield from 4 – 11 August next year.
