Primary school street dance festival

A street dance festival for Flintshire’s primary school pupils will take place on Tuesday, 20 April at Connah’s Quay Navy Club between 1pm and 5pm.

Last year Flintshire’s Festival of Youth Sport (FOYS) saw over 700 primary and secondary students taking part in street dance. As a result of this success and the impact that 5 X 60 has had in the counties, Secondary Schools Sport Flintshire is this year holding inaugural Flintshire Street Dance Festivals.

The festivals are being organised and run by 5 X 60 Officers and15 schools have entered the festival with over 250 students expected to take part

The festival includes a main team event and also quad and duo competitions. The duo and quad events require the students to come up with their own routines, encouraging health and fitness with creativity and technical ability. The team event also promotes teamwork amongst the dancers as they work together to contribute to routines and hold additional practice sessions without their coach.

All schools taking part are currently receiving a minimum of five hours free coaching delivered by volunteer coaches ‘Street Beatz’. All the coaches have been recruited from schools/colleges in Flintshire and have attended two workshops provided by Sport Flintshire in partnership with street dance group Urban Fusion.

Gareth Hayes, 5 x 60 Officer, Flintshire County Council, said: “We hope all the schools involved enjoy taking part in the event and more young people become involved in street dance.”
