Commenting on figures showing a fall in Welsh exports of 3.5% over the past year, including a fall of 5.5% in non-EU exports, which equates to a loss of £431million, Nick Ramsay AM, Shadow Minister for Business, said:
“These are disappointing figures showing stagnation in Welsh exports to EU countries and a worrying 5.5% decline in exports to nations outside the European Union.
“These figures do not make for happy reading about the state of Wales’ economic recovery under this Labour Welsh Government.
“Welsh Labour Ministers must redouble their efforts to create the conditions for private sector growth, in which businesses can prosper and compete for international contracts to sell their goods and services.
“Thousands of jobs in Wales are dependent on Welsh businesses being able to sell overseas, but the Welsh Government needs to showcase the talent and expertise on offer in Wales to maximise the benefits for the Welsh economy.”
