Welsh Government Vows to Tackle Anti-social Behaviour

Lesley_GriffithsNew Welsh Government legislation will grant landlords greater authority when tackling anti-social behaviour and domestic violence.

Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has praised the decision which was highlighted in proposals aimed at improving the law that applies to renting a home in Wales.

The Renting Homes White Paper was published earlier this year and includes a proposal to require a ‘prohibited conduct term’ in every tenancy contract.

The scheme will help landlords take tough, effective action against the perpetrators of domestic abuse or anti-social behaviour and anyone who breaches the term in their tenancy agreement could be liable to eviction.

In the case of domestic abuse, the victim and children would be able to remain in their home.

Lesley Griffiths AM commented:

“I recently pledged my support for the White Ribbon campaign which intends to raise awareness of domestic abuse and stop all male violence against women, emphasising any form of mistreatment is unacceptable and should not be excused or tolerated.”

“This new proposal will enable landlords to make the difference and I am pleased the Welsh Government is making a stand and taking an important step forward in tackling and preventing anti-social behaviour and domestic abuse.”
