RNLI fundraiser visit Holyhead station before trip – but no one there to greet him

A cyclist who sets off today on a 400 mile trip in aid of the RNLI popped by Holyhead lifeboat station last night to say goodbye to the crew, but unfortunately they weren’t there to greet him!

Matthew Hodder had arranged to meet some of the volunteer lifeboat crew yesterday at Holyhead lifeboat station but when he arrived he found the crew and the all-weather lifeboat were already out on a shout. Thankfully, after half an hour the Holyhead all-weather lifeboat had returned to the station and Matthew was able to greet the volunteer crew.

Matthew left Holyhead at 9am today (1st September) and will cycle 400 miles to Lowestoft to raise funds for the RNLI. On his journey Matthew will be using an 89 year-old bike that he restored himself especially for the trip.

Before his trip Matthew said:

‘I will depart from Holyhead on Anglesey, North Wales on 1st September and ride across the UK to Lowestoft, the most easterly town in England. It will take 7 days as I venture back towards East Anglia.’

He continued:

‘Raising Funds for the RNLI, who get no government funding, sees me off on my bike once again. If you have already supported and sponsored me, thank you very much’.
