During a Statement by Home Secretary, the Rt Hon Theresa May MP, on historic child abuse and the ongoing child protection and safeguarding, she made the important point that there needs to be a cross agency approach to ensure children remain safe. In Wales some of those agencies, such as social services, education and health, are devolved matters.

Commenting, Roger Williams, Lib Dem MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:

“It is important that the Home Office and other Government Departments work closely with the devolved nations, such as Wales, to ensure that our children are kept as safe as possible. I shall be writing to the First Minister to ensure that co-operation between Governments is of the highest level.”

In the House of Commons Roger Williams MP asked the Home Secretary, Rt Hon Theresa May MP:

Roger Williams (Brecon and Radnorshire) (LD):

The Home Secretary has rightly emphasised the importance of multi-agency work in safeguarding and protecting children. Some of those agencies operate under devolved legislation. Will she ensure that her Department and the United Kingdom Government as a whole co-operate fully with the devolved nations of the UK, so that children remain as protected as possible?

Mrs May:

My hon. Friend has raised an important point. I shall ensure that the work that is being done is discussed with the various devolved authorities.
