Shape Up on a Shoestring

The Isle of Anglesey County Council has thrown its support behind the Sports Council for Wales’ ongoing fitness campaign, Shape Up on a Shoestring.

The campaign, which launched in November 2009, has been helping Wales win the battle of the bulge that is stretching waistlines and budgets to breaking point.

With a series of expert tips about low cost exercise options, motivational mantras and easy-to-swallow nutritional advice, posted onto a dedicated Facebook page, the Shape Up campaign has proven to be the ultimate guide to shedding lbs whilst saving pounds.

The Isle of Anglesey County Council has now teamed up with the Sports Council to help the people of Anglesey to stick to their health and fitness resolutions well into 2010.

Leisure centres across the county are gearing up for action with a raft of low-cost exercise classes and sporting activities to burn off the Christmas calories:

  • Wide variety of fitness classes in 5 leisure centres
  • Fitness room induction from only £6.30
  • Unlimited Gym and Swim sessions for only £8.50 a week

Isle of Anglesey County Council, Aled Roberts, Head of Leisure and Communities Service said: “We fully support the Shape Up on a Shoestring campaign and the fundamental need to help people to keep fit and healthy at a time when we are all feeling the pinch.

“Our leisure centres provide top class health and fitness classes at an affordable rate, delivered by our highly trained and skilful teams of staff. Pay a visit to your local leisure centre and take the first steps towards a healthier, happier you.”

Huw Jones, Chief Executive of the Sports Council for Wales added: “Along with our Local Authority partners, the Sports Council for Wales is ultimately aiming to help get more people fit and healthy.”

“As the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and active lifestyles in Wales and the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Assembly Government, we are ideally placed to share practical expertise to help the Welsh nation adopt affordable healthy lifestyles.”
