Skewen steamroller Pontardawe

The second quarter-final of the Glamorgan County Worthington’s Silver Ball took place at Glynneath between Skewen and Pontardawe.

Skewen steamrollered Pontardawe to defeat by 31-13 with the Skewen backs outstanding, but a plucky Pontardawe team, well led by player-coach ex- Aberavon centre David Hawkins, resisted strongly.

Skewen scored four tries from full back Steven Winchcombe, fly half Richard Davies, namesake hooker Richard Davies and replacement Lee Dunsford. Scrum half Anthony Buscelli kicked three conversions and a penalty.

Tries for Pontardawe were scored by centre Kyle Roberts and Scott Jones and a penalty from fly half Gavin Lewis.

Skewen
will now meet the winners of the next Wednesday’s third quarter final between Aberavon Green Stars and Tonmawr at the Talbot Athletic Ground, Aberavon RFC (7.15 pm).
