Students make up mock management team

Students from Prestatyn High School will put their decision making skills to the test at a special mock up management board being set up by Denbighshire County Council.

The council, working in partnership with Gyrfa Cymru/Careers Wales, is offering 70 students the chance to work in teams and become decision makers for the day. They will be provided with scenarios from the fields of Revenues and Benefits, Planning, Public Protection, Finance, Housing Sevices, Social Services and Lifelong Learning.

The event is taking place this Thursday, 15 October at County Hall, Ruthin.

Students attending will also be given presentations by representatives of various council departments during the morning session. Each team will then be asked to work on the scenarios and provide a presentation on their vision of how money should be spent and how resources should be allocated.

Councillor Hugh Evans, Cabinet Lead Member for Lifelong Learning, said, “ This is an excellent opportunity to involve students from high schools in various aspects of our work and to get them interested in local democracy.

“Similar workshops organised in the past have proved extremely useful, with students showing great enthusiasm for the task and the decision making process.”
