Summertime Services for Young People Fun in RCT

Thousands of young people across Rhondda Cynon Taf have been kept busy this summer with a world of free activities delivered by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Services for Young People and its partners.

The Summer Holiday Programme offered experiences for all ages, from thrill seekers to sun seekers, would-be chefs to budding beauticians there was something for everyone this year.

Workshops in graffiti, musical theatre, hair and beauty, cooking and streetdance joined paintballing, quad biking, horse riding, white water rafting and much, much more to fill a programme that was dripping with exciting activities.

As if that wasn’t enough, lucky youngsters had the chance to join trips to Thorpe Park, Drayton Manor, West Midlands Safari Park and a Summer Adventure Activity Camp.

Running through 5 weeks of the summer holidays, the programme for 11 to 19 year olds continues to reach hundreds of the County’s younger residents who are now benefiting from a more exhilarating summer holiday.

Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning,, Cllr Eudine Hanagan, said: “We know young people of all interests and backgrounds have had the chance to enjoy new experiences this summer, thanks to the extensive programme.

“Days out, workshops and access to sport and fun are just some of the things offered during the long summer break, as part of our wider Services for Young People provision delivered the whole year round.

“The programme allows them to gain new experiences and develop interests in different spheres whilst providing an entertaining and memorable school holiday.”

The Summer Holiday Programme formed part of wider provision delivered for children, young people and their families throughout the holidays, including playschemes and child care, free events in libraries, outdoor events including the Big Welsh Bite and County Show and return of the ever-popular and successful High 5 scheme offering free leisure access for the under-16s and their families.

The Summer Holiday Programme was made possible by the Council’s Services for Young People and Fframwaith in partnership with Building the Future Together, a European Social Fund and Welsh Government funded project.
