Support Robin’s good deed

Robin Goodlad, Aberdyfi RNLI Lifeboat’s Senior Helmsman, is running this year’s London Marathon to raise money for the RNLI’s Flood Rescue Team, supported by Goodyear. To highlight the 10th anniversary of the formation of the Flood Rescue Team, a group of eight people are running the 2010 Virgin London Marathon to raise funds for vital training. Five of the runners are Flood Rescue Team volunteers, two work at the RNLI’s headquarters in Poole, Dorset and one is from Goodyear.

The Flood Rescue Team exists to save lives from inland flooding and the RNLI, as a charity, depends on public support. Members are all volunteers from RNLI Lifeboat Stations across the country, who not only commit to rescues at sea but also undertake specialist training to enable them to rescue people at risk in inland flooding.

In addition to Cockermouth, they were also involved in the flood rescues in Hereford and Worcester and in Gloucestershire in July 2007 and the floods in Morpeth in 2008. As a team they also have to be available to respond to any international disaster as required around the world at a moment’s notice. All of the team’s efforts are only possible with generous public donations.

If you are interested in sponsoring Robin you can do so through his JustGiving web page at www.justgiving.com/RobinGoodlad. It is simple, fast and totally secure. You can also contact Robin on 07970 704592.

The London Marathon is on Sunday 25 April this year if you want to keep an eye open for Robin and the team – they shouldn’t be too difficult to spot!
