Dr John Ball, a lecturer in Swansea University’s School of Business and Economics, has been invited to present a research paper at one of Europe’s most prestigious academic business conventions.
The 16th Nordic Conference on Small Business Research – May 20-21, in Kolding, Denmark – is a bi-annual event that attracts leading writers and academics from across northern Europe.
The conference, which is hosted by the University of Southern Denmark and is part-sponsored by the European Union, provides an opportunity for delegates to debate and examine ways to encourage business growth, especially on the fringes of Europe.
Dr Ball’s research revolves around strategic economics and the issues faced by new businesses in a regional context.
Dr Ball’s work has been widely published – The Independent on Sunday Guide to Business Schools bestowed upon him the title, guru – and he has advised the Welsh Assembly Government’s shadow cabinet, the Bank of England, and a House of Commons Committee.
Dr Ball said: “I am delighted to have been invited to present my work this year at this prestigious European event. As new ways of encouraging economic growth are being explored, many European regions and nations are investigating the potential of identifying small businesses that are more likely than others to grow.
“My research, undertaken within the Welsh economy, identifies some opportunities and problems and I am looking forward to sharing my ideas with colleagues from across Europe.”
