Swansea West Conservatives Select Candidate to Fight Mayals By-election

Craig profile Newest 1Swansea West Conservatives have selected local resident Craig Lawton as their candidate to fight the crucial Mayals ward by-election for Mumbles Community Councillor.

The election will take place on 19th June between 7am and 10pm when residents of Mayals ward, the only ward on Mumbles Community Council within Swansea West, will be able to have their say on who represents them.

Mr Lawton said: “Mayals needs a strong voice to represent it on the community council.

“A lot of the members of Mumbles Community Council seem to forget that Mayals is not in fact part of Mumbles. It is its own area, with a separate community and facilities.

“When it comes to the council making decisions, they all seem to go in favour of Mumbles. Mayals seems to get forgotten, and that goes for money as well.”

Mr Lawton added “I want to be able to stick up for Mayals make sure that Mayals is not ignored at council meetings.

“I believe in accountability, openness, and value for money. Unfortunately Mumbles Community Council does not provide any of these things for Mayals at present, but I intend to change that.”

Craig studied law at Swansea University and graduated in 2010. Since then he has worked for a number of law firms in the area. Craig has also been the Chairman of Swansea West Conservatives since April 2013. During this time he has worked closely with Mayals ward’s Cllr Linda Tyler-Lloyd to hold Swansea Council to account and assist residents with issues that come up.

As well as working locally Craig is also a qualified football referee and can often be found refereeing at weekends up Oystermouth Road at King George V Playing Fields on Ashleigh Road.
