Temporary closure of Tredegar House and grounds

Cabinet member leisure and continuing learning Cllr Hamilton has made the decision to temporarily close Tredegar House and grounds to members of the public for one week while The Ryder Cup is taking place.

Ryder Cup Ltd has exclusive use of the site between September 27 and October 4 and to enable the site to be used as a park and ride facility for The Ryder Cup it will need to be closed to members of the public during this period.

The park and ride facility at Tredegar House will be used by people travelling to The Ryder Cup and will ease potential traffic problems. All visitors who are attending the tournament and who are not on an official Ryder Cup travel service package will need to use one of the park and ride facilities.

The park and ride is also a key part of event security and all spectators will be subject to security checks before catching a bus to the event at the Celtic Manor Resort.

To ensure that the impact is minimised for regular users, the library based at Tredegar House will extend its book loan period for an extra week. Tredegar House itself will have closed for the season for casual visitors but will again be running its special events such as themed tours and Halloween in the autumn.

The Parkland around the House will not be available for walkers and other recreational users between September 27 and October 4. Tredegar Park is, however, open and available within the locality.

Ryder Cup Ltd will have limited access to Tredegar House from September 5 to complete the installation of the park and ride infrastructure. While large parts of the park will be unavailable while temporary road ways are being installed it will not be necessary to close the entire site during this period and the public will be separated from contractors at all times.
