Swansea is proving itself to be one of the most romantic areas of the country after latest figures revealed couples are bucking national trends and deciding to get wed here.
And the city’s Superintendent Registrar thinks part of the reason is because of the range of beautiful locations on offer for weddings in the area.
Edith Morgan said there were 678 weddings in the last year at scores of licensed venues across the city ranging from the stands at Liberty Stadium to glorious locations on Gower.
While that might be up just 10 on the previous year, it shows Swansea is bucking the trends where overall the number of couples tying the knot in England and Wales have been at their lowest for 110 years.
Swansea’s success story coincides with the publication of Swansea Council’s Wedding Brochure which offers an insight into the approved civil ceremony venues available in the city as well as information about the legal requirements for couples thinking of tying the knot.
Edith said: “One of the reasons why Swansea does so well is because of the sheer range of venues where couples can get married. Swansea is such a romantic place, especially with all the beautiful locations now on offer to couples who want the perfect backdrop for their big day.
“The weddings we officiate at are mostly for local people but quite a few come here to visit, fall in love with the place and decide Swansea’s the place for them to celebrate their perfect day.”
She said: “There’s now 24 different locations you can have a civil ceremony in Swansea– that’s more than ever before. It is important to remember that Fridays and Saturdays during the summer are very popular for weddings and if you are planning a civil ceremony you have to check with us first whether there’s a registrar available on the day and at the time you want.”
Copies of the wedding brochure are available at a range of venues across the city and at the Registrar’s Office at the Civic Centre. Call 01792 636188 or go to the website at www.swansea.gov.uk/weddings
