Ysgol Rhosgadfan Pupils learning the importance of road safety

Pupils in year one and two at Ysgol Rhosgadfan have been visited by a very important guest.

Carys Ofalus, Gwynedd Council’s road safety character, went to the school to present a certificate and a bag to every child that took part in the KerbCraft scheme.

Kerbcraft is a popular and effective scheme that promotes road safety to young pupils. The children have already have benefited from the scheme by going out around the school to learn about how to keep safe by the side of the road.

The scheme depends on volunteers, and for it to continue to be successful, the help of parents, friends of the school and governors is needed. Volunteering for an hour over a period of 10 to 12 weeks would ensure that the scheme can be implemented successfully.

Councillor Gareth Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Portfolio Leader for the Environment said:

“There are more vehicles than ever on our roads and ensuring that everyone is safe on the road is very important to the Council.

“I’m delighted that we were able to establish Kerbcraft at Ysgol Rhosgadfan this year to help the pupils to be aware of the dangers they could face on our roads.”

Cheryl Morgan from Gwynedd Council’s Road Safety team added:

“The children have responded well to the scheme and we hope that parents will come forward to volunteer in September so that more pupils can learn the Green Cross Code.”
