AM calls for ‘vigilance’ after Health Board plans are announced

Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, has given a ‘cautious’ welcome to new health proposals for Mid Wales but said that there were still questions that need to be answered about services at Bronglais.

The Hywel Dda Local Health Board announced major proposals for the restructure of hospital services in west Wales, including Bronglais which serves around 40,000 patients from Powys and South Gwynedd.

Commenting, Mr George said:

“There has been a lot of concern from patients living in east Montgomeryshire about the future of health services in the Hwyel Dda region.

“It does seem that with these proposals announced today that the Health Board has given attention to the provision of services at Bronglais.

“However, as these are just proposals out for consultation, we still have to remain vigilant and fight to ensure we maintain key services in Mid Wales.

“This is just the start of the 12 week consultation and I would urge as many people as possible in Montgomeryshire to respond to this process as possible, so that pressure is put on health board executives not to change their minds.”
