Monmouthshire Libraries to Launch Aid for People with Memory Loss

MonmouthshireMonmouthshire Libraries is to mark Dementia Awareness Week – running from 18th to 24th May – by launching the new Memory Collection as part of its health and well-being initiative.

The Memory Collection consists of illustrated books, DVDs and postcards specially designed for people with memory loss, their relatives or carers to share. The books contain vibrant pictures and simple text on a range of familiar topics including pets, holidays and the garden while DVDs cover work, leisure and childhood. Postcards are available featuring the 1940s and 1950s.

The majority of books in the Memory Collection are produced by Pictures to Share, a social enterprise set up to develop literature for people with dementia.  A leaflet to explain how to get the most from the books is available from all six libraries in the county.

Items in the collection will not incur fines if returned late and no charges will be made for damage.

In addition, Monmouthshire Libraries has a wide selection of books for carers of people living with dementia. Library staff will be pleased to help customers find titles or reserve books out on loan.
