Partipation in Sport – Delivering Something Different

To date over 200 Year 12 students have taken part in Glamorgan Business School’s sports management and development activity day.

Pupils from over 7 schools and colleges including Gorseinon college, Barry College and Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari had the opportunity to take part in a practical sports development session led by current students from the BA Sports Development degree. The ‘Participation in Sport – Delivering Something Different’ activities included ultimate frisbee, street dance and climbing, which provided the college pupils with an understanding of how sports development practitioners are helping to get the nation more physically active.

Sports participation is no longer just about the traditional games of rugby or netball, initiatives like Dragon Sport and the 5×60 scheme have encouraged participation in a broader spectrum of non traditional sports. Students were also encouraged to debate the potential benefits to Wales of London hosting the 2012 Olympic Games during the session The London 2012 Olympics: A legacy for Wales?

The visit to the university was aimed at giving the students a flavour of studying sport management and development. Glamorgan Business School’s unique BA Sports Development and BA [Hons] Sports Management are degrees that combine academic theory with vocationally-relevant practical skills.
